January 2011 – Goodwill Industries
FPA Pro Bono partnered with Goodwill Industries to provide pro bono financial planning services to Goodwill’s employees. Six volunteer planners from FPA assisted qualified clients in their efforts to build financial stability through goal setting, budgeting debt and credit management, risk management and other financial planning tools. Twenty employees from Goodwill Industries took advantage of the services. Goodwill has initiated another partnership beginning in September 2011. Our goal is to work with 30 additional employees.
Publicity:
1)      Two of the goodwill employee clients and two staff participated in a presentation to the Foundation of Financial Planning Board when they visited Charlotte in March. They addressed how they gained financial skills and have incorporated these into their lives.

2)      Goodwill’s July issue of their “Working Together” Newsletter featured an article regarding FPA volunteer financial planner, Gail Miller and employee, Kimberly Poindexter. It focused on the partnership between FPA and Goodwill and the changes Kimberly made as a result of the guidance provided to her in working with Gail over several months.

March 3, 2011 - FPA Charlotte participated in the UNC-Charlotte Employee Benefits Fair.  Board member Lynn Davidson discussed Real World Retirement Planning with a group of about 20 attendees.

April, May, June 2011 – Habitat for Humanity
FPA Pro Bono initiated a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County to work with the organization over a 3 month period to assist in its efforts to build financial stability and advance the mission of building decent, affordable housing for those in need in the community. Habitat Cabarrus builds approximately 10 homes per year but were facing a number of issues that threatened the ongoing success of the organization. Five FPA planners helped the organization with financial guidance to determine a viable business model for the affiliate in light of the current status. As a result of FPA’s Pro Bono analysis and guidance, Habitat felt that would be able to implement recommendations and proceed successfully.
